Coming Up to Breathe

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step…………….

Cryoablation Done

Glad to have that over and done with!!  The procedure itself wasn’t too bad.  Even with 10mg of oral valium I watched the entire thing and chatted with the gyn doc and ultrasound tech!!  It took maybe 20 min or so.  Then they asked me to sit up….

And I thought I would die!!  That is when the pain hit.  I actually thought I was in labor again!!  It was that bad.  But after a few tense minutes it eased up and I was able to get up and walk out.  And then…..

I decided I needed to go to the bathroom real quick before leaving.  That’s when I started bleeding.  They forgot to tell me that might happen!!  So, got home and slept all day like the good doc told me to.  Now awake and crampy (and crabby!!) but doing ok.  Hopefully it will all have been worth it.  We’ll see in a month I guess when I find out if Aunt Flo comes to visit or not…..

Almost there….

I had my lupron injection and I gotta say that menopause is NOT something I’m looking forward to!!  It is medication induced on my part but man these symptoms suck!!

Today I went in to get my cervix softening gel placed so I should have quite the crampy night at work I’m told.  I guess we’ll see.  Then first thing in the morning I go to the gyn office for my cryoablation procedure.

Why would I work all night before it you ask?  That is what the doc recommended actually!!  He said then the valium he is giving me would kick in and I could just sleep all day.  I’ll let you know how it goes!!

Iron deficiency appointment

FINALLY the long awaiting beginning to an end.  At least that’s what I’m hoping for.  I’m so hoping this is the answer to all my symptoms.

I saw the hematologist today and we went over my medical history thoroughly.  He agreed that iron deficiency is probably the cause of all my symptoms that I mention here.  We talked about the work up I had done previously and what my primary doctor had said about this being normal since I’m not anemic etc.  He was quite thorough and answered all my questions.  He also agreed that the cause of the deficiency is likely the heavy menses and was quite happy to hear that I was having the uterine cryoablation done.

Then he basically gave me 2 choices:  1)wait until after the ablation and stay on oral iron and see if it works after more time or 2)have a dose of IV iron for better absorption.  We agreed as a team that choice #2 was better since I had already done the oral iron for 3 months without much difference.  He said I was actually someone who doesn’t absorb iron through my GI tract very well.

I will go back to his office tomorrow morning to have my iron infusion!  I will be there 4 hours………wow!  Since I have never had it I have to have pre-medications and then a test dose before the full dose.  He said if its going to work I will feel a difference in about 2 weeks.  I go for my follow up blood work in a month along with another office visit with him.  Originally he thought I would need several doses but once I told him about the upcoming ablation he is hopeful that this will be the only dose I will need!  Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer for me please!!

Endometrial biopsy

I talked in a previous post about having a uterine cryoablation.  Today I had my endometrial biopsy as one of the steps to get ready for it.  This had to be done to make sure there is no cancer in the uterus as if there is and the ablation is done it is bad news.  It was only slightly unpleasant and luckily quite quick.  The next step is a lupron injection once my menses starts. This thins out the lining as much as possible to make the area for ablation the most ideal to respond to the ablation process.  Then 24-30 days later I have the ablation and hopefully if all goes as planned I will have either no more menses or very, very light ones.

Quick biopsy update and new plans

Just had my 1 month follow from the LEEP and I am currently cervical dysplasia free!!  Yipee!  Next pap smear in 6 months.

At this appointment we also talked more seriously (we have been talking about it before now but the cervical stuff took precidence) about my iron deficiency and it’s symptoms etc (see this post) and how difficult life has gotten since having it.  So the planning has started for me to have a uterine cryoablation done.  I am one of those people who bleed very heavily every month so no matter how much iron I eat or take I just don’t make it up.  I’m in the middle of my 3 months of perscription therapy but not feeling any better yet.  The way this has to be planned I won’t be able to have it done until my 3 months of iron is done and my levels are rechecked anyway but he is confident that I won’t be any higher.  He feels this is my best option to a)get better and b) prevent it from happening again.

I’ll update more as it gets closer.
